No! Well, at least not any more than the price of the items you purchase. The funds you receive each month or each year from your health plan are yours to use. There are no hidden fees to use your card.
In the near future, you will be able to check your card balance directly from the MyHBCard.com website. Our mission is to make using your card in your local neighborhood much easier than ever before. Today, you can access your card balance via your health plan's website. In some cases, you may need to call the number on the back of the card.
You cannot personally add funds to your card. All funds in your digital wallet are added by your health plan on a monthly or annual basis. Your health plan may provide incremental balance increases as rewards for health decisions, depending on your plan.
Your health plan's website can answer this question for you. The approved product list varies from health plan to health plan. However, typically the following categories of food items are eligible: approved healthy produce, beverages, dairy, meat and seafood, deli items, frozen and prepared foods, bakery items and more.
In a case where only some of the items in your cart are eligible for purchase, while others are not, you will need to provide a secondary payment method at checkout (e.g., cash, credit, debit) for the remaining, ineligible items. The cashier will use your OTC/HBC card for the eligible items first, then use your second payment method for the remaining items. You can also opt not to purchase ineligible items, should you choose.
The best way to confirm which items are eligible today is to visit your health plan's website and view their specific information. Each health plan has variations in the types of items that can be accepted.
